Inpro Corporation today reported that it was the first of 30 companies to file its product information in the Health Product Declaration pilot study. The goal of the pilot is to help satisfy the architectural community’s desire for more transparency about what is actually in the various materials and products that go into buildings.

Inpro is one of 30 companies participating in a two-month pilot programme to test and improve the Health Product Declaration Open Standard (HPD), a voluntary format for disclosing product content and related health concerns that are typically not reported even when a product, or a building, is certified “green. Inpro submitted its Formatrac® Bendable Track for cubicle curtains, which consists of a flexible aluminium track with an ABS plastic cover.

The programme is being administered by the Health Product Declaration Working Group, a volunteer organisation comprised of experts from the community of designers, specifiers and building owner/operators that authored the HPD Open Standard format which made its debut at Greenbuild 2011.

The companies participating in the Pilot programme manufacture a diverse array of building products, from structural components, to finishes, to office systems. Each has agreed to complete an HPD for as many as three products, and to provide the HPD Working Group with feedback. The Working Group will evaluate and synthesise the feedback, and revise the draft HPD into a final version that will be officially ratified and made available to the public later this year.

€œThe HPD Working Group has really listened to the pilot participants, and developed an online registration tool that is fairly easy to use, said Matt Bennett, Inpro’s vice president of product development. We now look forward to the Group’s review over the next several months, and the rollout of the complete Open Standard later this year.
